Elsewhere

Almost every night, I wake up at around 4 a.m.
I lie on my back in the dark for an hour or more.
In silence, I imagine other places at that specific moment.

In the early evening, I placed microphones in the forest and started recording.
I left the site, only to return the next morning.
In the recordings, I searched for the moment when I woke up that night,
the beginning of an hour of sound as could be heard elsewhere.

Nostalgic exercise

In 2009, together with Jello Reumer (driver) and Steef van Lent (camera),
I created the video performance
Crossing.

Now, 17 years later, I have redone my part of the work.
At the same place, I crossed the road in 30 minutes.

Borrow

In the woods, I picked up a stick
and used it during my walk.
When I returned, I put the stick down
exactly where I had found it.

Surface

Today I walked,
until I caught sight of my reflection
in the surface of a pond.

Sī′ləns

I invited a number of friends to make a one-minute audio recording of a personal experience of silence on 1 January 2026.
I combined all recordings into a single audio file.
