De Verplaatsing

Binoculars (2022)

In 2022, the Picturaprijs was awarded to one of my works.
As a result, my exhibition De Verplaatsing (the Relocation) will be on display at Pictura from 11 May to 16 June. The exhibition will feature text works, photographic, sound and video works, originating from recent journeys by train, by car and on foot.

The exhibition will not have a fixed form; it will be rearranged each new week with (basically the same) works. It is an investigation of form and meaning, just as within a sentence a different sequence of words can create a different meaning. I want to explore how the composition of works within an exhibition space can create shifts in content.

For each week of the exhibition, I invited an artist friend. I asked them to create a work about their journey from their hometown to Pictura. These works will be presented every Sunday afternoon in the Derde Zaal. The invited artists are successively: Marita Bullmann, John G. Boehme, Marnik Neven, Andrew McNiven and Manuela Macco.

I consider the exhibition an ongoing performance and will therefore be present myself throughout the exhibition period. I will open the front door, welcome visitors, tell something about the work if there is a need, sometimes serve a cup of coffee, and close the front door again at the end of the day.

The invitation will follow later.
I hope to see you on 11 May at the opening.

For MisterMotley, Alex de Vries went on a studio visit to Frans van Lent:
Van Lent formulates an intention and executes it consistently. It is an agreement with himself that he keeps.
You could see Frans van Lent's work as "actions", but the opposite is true. Not "non-actions", because he does do something, but it is an event in which nothing happens.
